2024 County Board Election Endorsements for Natalie Roy

“I have known Natalie as an energetic and experienced civic leader in our diverse Arlington community. Whether fighting for affordable housing, transparency in government, bringing people together to solve problems, or planning for Arlington’s future she will be a great addition to the County Board. Natalie knows our varied neighborhoods and will be a strong voice for the community. I wholeheartedly endorse her.”

The Honorable J. Walter Tejada

Former Arlington County Board Chair

“As a board member, Natalie will bring experience of years of civic activism in Arlington, which has been the basis of this community’s legacy of effective leadership. Natalie understands Arlington’s tradition of land use planning based on principles of environmental sustainability, a commitment to public transportation, and a focus on housing affordability.”

The Honorable Chris Zimmerman

Arlington County Board Member, (1996-2014)

"Natalie has been a community leader in Arlington for decades. She believes that the County Board's actions should better reflect the community's priorities of fiscal sustainability, health and well-being, environmental stewardship, and housing that is affordable for low and moderate-income households. I heartily support her for County Board."

The Honorable Abby Raphael

Former Arlington County School Board Member

"Natalie Roy knows Arlington—our neighborhoods, our schools, and our businesses. And her decades of community involvement mean that she’ll hit the ground running in addressing our most pressing challenges. From fiscal sustainability to transparency in government decision-making, Natalie will be our voice."

The Honorable John Vihstadt

Former County Board Member,  (I; 2014-2018)

"I've known Natalie for more than a decade, prior to my elected service; she is an active listener and solutions-driven problem solver. Arlington is in the midst of transition; long-standing residents and new Arlingtonians are all seeking to identify viable paths forward on issues of housing, transportation, and education. Nat possesses character, commitment, and sensibility traits that would serve her as a county board member."

The Honorable James Lander

Aurora Highlands resident, Former School Board Chair

"Natalie's detailed and thoughtful education platform, and her long history as an APS high school tennis coach, gives me confidence that as a County Board member, she will work to prioritize funding for APS and be a champion for marginalized students, and students with disabilities who need the resources of our county government."

Symone Walker

Education Activist, Special Education Advocate, and founder, Symone for Students

"I strongly endorse Natalie Roy for the Democratic nomination for Arlington County Board. As a former Chair of the Arlington County Democratic Committee (ACDC) and Arlington civic activist, I have worked with Natalie on many projects for over two decades. She has repeatedly championed critical Democratic priorities such as gun control and women's rights to reproductive health care. She is an enormously creative and innovative thinker who knows how to bring the best people together to meet the unprecedented challenges Arlington is facing. As a County Board member, she can hit the ground running on Day 1. Please join me in giving her and Arlington this opportunity to serve us all with distinction."

Peter Rousselot

Former Board Chair of the Fiscal Affairs Advisory Commission to the Arlington County Board, former Co-Chair of the Advisory Council on Instruction to the Arlington School Board, former Chair of the Arlington County Democratic Committee, former member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA).

"As a former chair of Arlington's Planning Commission, I fully support Natalie's position on the County's evolving, flawed Missing Middle Housing/Enhanced Housing Options (MMH/EHO) program. She spoke out against it because it will not achieve affordable housing or result in planning for that housing. She is a great communicator, and her ongoing EHO Watch newsletter is invaluable in tracking the status of this housing initiative. We can count on her independent critical thinking, organizing abilities, and understanding of how to get things done in government."

Elinor Schwartz

Former Arlington County appointee to the Planning Commission, Park and Recreation Commission and the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust

“I support Natalie for Arlington County Board because I have personally witnessed through the years of her strong care of family, community and success in business. Natalie’s operational skills, experience, and relationships will be powerful assets for us as one of our locally elected representatives.”

Chanda Choun

Arlington Military Veteran, Tech Professional, Business Owner

"I wholeheartedly endorse and support Natalie Roy for County Board. I have known and volunteered with Natalie for decades and she genuinely cares about Arlington and its residents. Natalie is always the first person to volunteer to help with or chair a project and actively recruits others to get involved. Though her work as a real estate professional and as a longtime resident, Natalie knows the ins and outs of Arlington. We need someone who truly cares about our community on the County Board."

Paul Showalter, Arlington/Lyon Park resident/Community Volunteer for 30+ years

“Natalie es reconocida como una líder que trabaja sin descanso para lograr el bienestar de la comunidad de Arlington. Ella luchará por la transparencia, el saneamiento fiscal y la protección del medio ambiente. Testimonials

“Natalie Roy has devoted an incredible amount of energy for the benefit of Arlingtonians. As President of the Lyon Park Citizens Association she strongly advocated for transparency in government, and always spoke out for the underrepresented. As both a caring neighbor and successful businessperson, she is a perfect fit for a seat on the Arlington County Board.”

 Elliott and Marlene Mandel

Lyon Park Residents for 32 years

"I have known Natalie Roy for over 25 years through her community involvement and her realty business. She is a practical business leader and dedicated towards community service - exactly the kind of person we need in our local government. Proven, professional, inclusive, thoughtful!"

 Scott Sklar

Ashton Heights Resident for 38 years

“I’ve been friends with Natalie Roy for over 20 years. We’ve been through youth soccer, Girl Scouts, One Direction, and much more together as our children grew up in Arlington. Natalie’s curiosity, high-energy, willingness to work hard with and for others, and sense of fairness will serve all Arlington citizens well on the County Board.”

Patty Adair

Penrose Resident for 30 Years

"At a scary and pretty dark time, when Covid vaccines were hard to come by, and leadership on vaccines equally hard to come by, Natalie took the initiative for our community. She helped start a service to connect neighbors with vaccines and recruit drivers to get them to appointments, she served on the Arlington Covid vaccine committee to bring vaccines, and vaccine equity, to all Arlingtonians, and she even brought a vaccine clinic to our community center. She showed up over and over and focused relentlessly on getting the work done, not on getting credit or attention. We need a doer like Natalie on the County Board."

 Martha Casey

Ashton Heights Resident for 25 years

“Natalie is all heart when it comes to Arlington County. She cares about everyone in the county. From school-age, to young adults, to the elderly, Natalie gives her heart 110% to make ALL Arlingtonians are heard.”

 Stephanie Meadows

Yorktown High School Teacher

“Natalie Roy is a force of nature. For the 25 years that I've known her, from leading the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable to protecting our precious coastlines with the Clean Beaches Council, a passion for the environment has shaped her values. Natalie is the personification of authenticity.”

Walter McLeod

President, Eco Capitol Energy

"I have known Natalie since her days when she fiercely worked to improve our region's and nation's environmental quality. Natalie is a dynamo and will bring that needed energy, focus and commitment to the County Board. She is committed to representing Arlingtonians by truly engaging with them on the issues they care most about and finding creative solutions. She is a problem-solver who will bring practical approaches to thorny issues. Natalie will make an exceptional County Board member and I strongly endorse her."

Esther Bowring

Arlington resident for 43 years, currently in Arlington Forest

“I have been an Arlington resident for 20 years, and have known Natalie for over 10 since moving to Ashton Heights— as a fellow activist, business client, neighborhood volunteer, and as a neighbor and friend. Natalie is passionate about everything she does and brings her all to every objective she sets. From making our neighborhood safe from guns, clean and bicycle-friendly, retaining its essential character without upzoning, sufficiently funded for initiatives, or just a friendly place to be, Natalie is always active, engaged, and bringing value. She is frank, honest, and never afraid to speak her mind. I truly believe she will be a breath of fresh air to the County Board and look forward to seeing her much-needed contributions to Arlington County.”

 Hoda Moustafa

“The breadth of Natalie Roy's combined skills and experience - in local governance, education, environmental conservation, real estate, and sports - gives us the chance to bring a leader to the county board with proven willingness to listen to all Arlingtonians. Whether she’s wielding her voice to bring compromise to a strong-armed “Missing Middle” plan or bringing common sense urban planning to our overloaded school system, Natalie will bring Arlington together. Natalie will build a consensus coalition to preserve Arlington’s promise and hone a vision of the future that protects our most vulnerable citizens and provides opportunity for all. Whether she’s protecting the value of our homes, saving T.J. Park, calming traffic, rebuilding our community house, coaching youth tennis or collecting prom dresses for high schoolers in need, there’s no quality-of-life issue or detail too small for Natalie’s care.”

 Melissa Merson

Longtime Arlington resident

"Natalie was the Executive Director of the national Clean Water Network. I worked with her as its board chair. Natalie was such a go-getter, just indefatigable. She took the Network from a sleepy organization to one of national stature, increasing our visibility. In 2009, our board of directors worked with President Obama’s transition team under her guidance, and every year we discussed environmental policy with Cooks Political. Natalie worked hard to elevate the work of other state organizations in the Network, helping us with access to our representatives in DC. Natalie worked hard to make the national Clean Water Network a success. I learned a lot from her about how to dig into a project and get the work done. If she can do that for the national Clean Water Network, imagine what she can do for you on the County Board."

Renee Hoyos

Principal Consultant for Environmental Justice at ERM

Congressional Candidate TN-02, 2018, 2020

"We've known Natalie Roy for more than 20 years, ever since our children played together at an Arlington child-care center. We know her to be a frank, knowledgeable, inquisitive, and caring person who loves Arlington and is always looking for ways to make the world a better place. Natalie would be an excellent addition to the county board."

Denise & Mike Magner

Dominion Hills neighborhood

"As the lead voice for historic preservation in Arlington for the last 43 years, I've been carefully watching the Key Bridge Marriott since it closed 2+ years ago. Natalie’s suggestion, as described in the Arlington Patch, to convert the building for mixed-use housing (including homeless housing...obviously, based on events there last weekend, there is a real need for that!), is not only superb, but practical, down-to-earth, common sense, and eminently doable!  The County has massive reserve funds just for unbudgeted, unfunded projects of this nature. I had urged the Board to use those funds to purchase the historic 9.5 acre Febrey-Lothrop-Rouse estate 2-3 years ago, and they refused, instead voting unanimously to let the main mansion, secondary and guest homes, numerous outbuildings, swimming pool, cabana, etc. all be totally destroyed! This is a win-win-win for the County, the homeless, citizens of Arlington, and all those seeking lower cost housing options/alternatives."

Tom Dickinson

Founder, Save Historic Arlington

"We are thrilled Natalie is running for office in Arlington! Nobody knows Arlington better than Natalie Roy. She has selflessly served Arlington in multiple capacities. She knows and loves our community. Natalie's professional expertise and "can do" spirit helped us immensely. A joy to work with. Natalie is amazing. A skilled negotiator and true professional. Natalie's heart is in Arlington. She's deeply committed to serving our community and making it even better. We experienced Natalie's detailed knowledge of Arlington, business expertise and boundless energy when she helped us buy property. She's amazing! Our county needs leaders like her. Natalie rides her bicycle everywhere! It seems she's pedaled on every Arlington street. She knows, and loves, our county."

Cathy Zimmerman

Without a doubt she will bring a voice of reason much needed in the County Board."
